Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find!

 I love mirrors.  Especially old vintage mirrors.  I probably have too WAY many mirrors in my home, but I can't help it!  I just love them!

  I was at the Kane County Flea Market and saw this mirror. I loved the COLOR!  It caught my eye right away, but I did not buy it!  I talked myself out of it since I had quite a few mirrors. It was hard but I managed to leave without it! 

 I came home and thought about this blue mirror all night!  Literally ALL NIGHT!  I do that sometimes, it is a problem I have! :)

 SO I went back on Sunday (thankfully this flea market is really close!) and it was still there!  I got this mirror for $25.00! (plus the extra $5.00 I had to pay to get in the 2nd day!)

I love the pop of color this mirror adds to my otherwise brown-ish reading corner. 

This mirror is really heavy & pretty old which is of course another thing I love about it!  Oh and it is also one of a kind, that is pretty neat too!

DIY Tables....

Ever needed a little table to sit next to a chair to hold your coffee or a book?  I did and I could not find one the right size anywhere. So I found out how to make my own....

  I love decorating blogs, which is of course why I started my own blog. One of the first blogs I started checking out thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com  She has some great ideas!  One of her posts was making a cute little accent table.  So easy!!!!  So easy in fact I made two!!!

 This one is in our bedroom next to a reading chair.  Perfect for holding a cup of tea!

This one is next to a chair in our family room.  This one is great for holding a glass of wine and a good book!  :)

Supplies needs for tables:

*Wood plate

I got mine from Hobby Lobby. It is 14" round unfinished wood.  About $6.00 with a coupon.  Since the wood is unfinished I sprayed a coat of primer on it first, otherwise the paint soaks right in.  I then used Rust-Oleums Heirloom White to cover the plate.  I love that color.  I sprayed a few coats on the plates and then sanded up the edges abit.

*Craft mirror

I got my mirrors at Hobby Lobby as well.  The size is 12" and they were about $3.00 each with a coupon. 

*glue

I love this glue.  It is super strong and it dries clear!  Also from Hobby Lobby.  Alittle goes a long way!

*Base:tall candles holders.

I used two different kinds of candles holders.  The glass base is a candle holder I found on clearance at Homegoods for $7.00.  I thought the glass would be pretty!  The other base is a wood candle holder I had in the basement.  I spray painted the wood candle holder Heirloom White.

Now is the simple part.  After your spray painted plate is dry, glue the bottom of the plate to the top of the candle holder.  Let the glue dry.  Next place the mirror on top of the wood plate, it fits in the grooved area of the plate really well.  I did not glue the mirror to the plate, just fit it on top.

That is it!  EASY!!!!

Coventry Gray it is!

  Bryce's room is almost done! 

We decided on Coventry Gray by Benjamin Moore for her walls.  It is the perfect gray!   

 I really liked Behr paint from Home Depot, I always have them mix whatever color we pick out.  I use the Behr washable flat in the green can. That is unless I am doing a bathroom! (tried the flat in my kid's bathroom and it is literally running off the wall by the shower from all the moisture!)  Looks spooky in there!

I have been getting the Behr paint with the primer in it, but even with that I still do 2 coats of paint.  The guy mixing my paint said if I do 2 coats to just go ahead with the regular not the one with primer, it is about $8.00 less a can. 

Isn't it pretty!!!

What I like about this gray is that is just that....gray.  I love grays with blue or silver in them, but we wanted a nice simple gray for her walls.  This was it! 

This paint covered great over the purple. 

This room was a breeze to paint!  Since I sold every piece of furniture (except one small table) it was so easy to move around! Sure beats painting around beds and dressers!  It was done in record time!!

I am so happy with how the Coventry Gray turned out.  It is really a pretty color!  I would definitely use it again!  It is a great neutral!


Now that the painting is done the fun starts!  Time to put her room back together.  This is really the best part of redecorating a room!   Especially as we repurposed things we already have!  I LOVE doing that!!!  We have been spray painting, Annie Sloan painting, organizing, etc.

Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find.....

Boy time is flying by lately!  I can't believe it is already Friday!  Busy week of Real Estate and painting my daughter's bedroom! We LOVE the gray by the way, will post pics soon!

 My favorite flea market find for this week is a couple of awesome lamps. I bought both of these at the Kane County Flea Market.

  Both are vintage, both work, both are so pretty! 

This little lamp came in a set of two for $60.00.  My sister Kim and I split the set so I paid $30.00 for the lamp. These lamps are so solid and heavy!

I found this lamp at the Kane County Flea Market as well.  This one has LEAD CRYSTAL & HANDMADE on the bottom of it.  Another very solid lamp.  This lamp was $20.00. 

This beautiful lead crystal lamp is sold at Inviting Home and is $650.00.

This pretty lamp is from Lamps Plus and is priced at $190.00.

This lead crystal lamp is $398.00 at Neenas.

Which brings us back to this little beauty.  Did I say it was $30.00?  And it is a cut lead crystal lamp! And it works!  AND it is solid!  Don't forgot it is also vintage, not a new lamp trying to look vintage.  Which do not get me wrong, those lamps are gorgeous too!  I have a glass lamp from Target that I love!  I am just very happy with my little glass lamps from the flea market!  My grandparents had very similar lamps to these two lamps so they bring back alot of memories!

Searching for the perfect shade of gray.

I have been looking at gray paint colors for days & days! During this time I have realized this much..... I LOVE GRAY!  

  When  TJ & I built our first home over 20 years ago (early 90's) the hot color scheme was gray and mauve!  We had mauve carpet through out the house and gray walls everywhere.  We had a pink flowered couch and a pink papason chair too!  Since that house I have not done much with gray.  I pretty much stayed away from it!  Until recently I started to love it all over again!

Gray, grayish blue, silver, dark gray, light silvery blue.....I love it all.  So my daughter Bryce and I have decided on gray for her bedroom.  I did not even have to talk her into it!!

This is Oyster Shell by Benjamin Moore.  I found this on Emily Henderson's blog.  I love this color!  I love this room!!

     Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.  (no source)  I could paint this color all over my house!  Love it!

This is Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore.  (room also done by Emily Henderson)  This one is so pretty!



I was very tempted by this strip of colors by Benjamin Moore.  Thrifty Decor Chick is using them in her basement remodel.  

 Coventry Gray by BM.  I love the pops of teal, orange, and yellow in this room!

but the winner is........

Coventry Gray by Benjamin Moore.  This gray is perfect. It is just that....GRAY!  While I love the grays with a hint of blue or silver, for Bryce's room we wanted a true gray color.  I am so excited to get it on the walls!  :)

Kane County Flea Market!

I spent a few hours yesterday at the Kane County Flea Market.  My daughter Bryce came with me since we were searching for some things for her room.  I posted her old bedroom set on Craigslist and it sold right away!  All of it!  Bed, dresser, desk, shelves, mattress.  She has NOTHING!

 We decided to re do her room for these reasons:

1.  Her dresser was from when she was 2 and we were both just tired of it. 

2.  Her desk has sat in her room for 2 years and she never once sat at it!  It collected piles and piles of stuff though!

3.  Her bed was a twin and she had really wanted a full size bed. 

I told her that if we could sell the old stuff we could re do it, and sell it did!

I did cave on painting the room.  I was NOT going to re paint it.  Problem is I like painting and I love decorating so her room is getting painted.  Thinking of a soft gray!  So excited!

   Bryce likes flea markets for about an hour or so.  Then she is pretty much done.  I like flea markets for hours and hours and hours!  And yesterday the weather could not have been more perfect.  We had a good day, but I could have stayed there so much longer!! Like until I was the last person there still shopping!!

Here is abit of what we saw.......

I love that table.  I saw it a few times now.  It is made of a man hole type cover.  It is so heavy & expensive which is why I think I keep seeing it!

I thought this cabinet was  really beautiful! 

This vendor has rows and rows of tables & dressers.

Birdhouses on rakes, kind of different!

Old metal lockers are really in right now.  These orange ones would be so cute in a boys room or a play room.  Both theses sets were sold.

The flowers were gorgeous!

This table was from the vendor who made my barn wood coffee table.  This table is so cool!  It is framed in heavy metal of some sort.  I could not figure out what it was but I liked it!

This is the first time I have seen this vendor.  She had rows and rows of vintage prints.  All different prices according to how old they were.  She finds them all from over the world.  I could have looked here all day!

This wood shelf was so cool.  I am not sure why they had old kids shoes in it though??  I think it would make an awesome bookcase!

Almost bought these for Bryce's room but for $15.00 each I figured I can make some!

Here is what we came home with.  We were on the look out for a dresser and we found one!  It is from the 1920's.  It is solid and has wheels!  We have big plans for this dresser!  The wire basket was $15.00!  I can't find them for less than $40.00 lately so had to buy it!

I also could not pass up these vintage botanical prints.  $1.00 each!

And here you see Bryce's bed!  :)  This old barn door is exactly what we both had in mind!  This one is sealed so we don't have to worry about old paint chipping off.  $40.00.  PERFECT!!

Although short, it turned out to be a pretty successful day at the flea market.  And nothing beats spending time with my daughter!  :)

Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find.......

Happy Friday!  This Friday's Favorite Flea Market find is an antique white weathered chippy old table!  I LOVED it the minute I saw it.  I found it at the Kane County Flea Market.

 

I am not sure what it is about this little table.  It is one of my favorite pieces of furniture!  I have to add that when I unloaded this table TJ did raise his eyebrows at it.  He never quite knows what I am thinking!! hmmmmm I wonder why?? :)

  I have seen tables similar to this that are brand new, made to look old for hundreds and hundreds of dollars.  This table IS really old, the vendor called it primitive!  Oh, and I paid $40.00!

It is exactly the look I love!

This (blurry) table can be rented for "vintage weddings" at inventory.foundrentals.  Wonder how much it costs to rent a table??
