Hello and welcome to our kitchen.....

Although our kitchen gets a lot of natural light it still seemed dark to me. It faces west so can actually get very bright. But there was a great deal of "dark" in this room with the countertops, cabinets and floors etc.  I think it is interesting how your taste can change so much over the years.  We built this house so we picked out all the dark stuff. We had a green laminate counter too.  It did not look green on the 2x2 sample piece, we thought it was gray! We have since replaced the counters. We did not mind the green, it just was not what we had in mind and it looked pretty bad with the cabinets.

Some of my favorite projects in the kitchen are:
*The two repurposed light fixtures * My blue island!
* My SUPER good deal on new appliances!
*New cabinet hardware.

I still want to make some changes to the dining area.  Maybe lightened up the table with some Annie Sloan?? The table that is we use now is very dark and shows every little scratch, water mark, and spec of dust!  I am not a big fan!

As you can see we do not have much wall space in here. I have tried several different paint colors in here from red to light green to a terra cotta color and then went back to the original color which is Sherwin Williams Camelback. Sometimes I need to leave well enough alone! I love this paint color, it is in many rooms in our home. It is a great neutral!

This island is my favorite part of the kitchen! My husband was a little concerned when I started but I think has grown to like it??  I will post some before and afters soon!  Easy and inexpensive!

As I look at the pictures in my post the color ORANGE is popping in my head!  Hmmmm wonder where I can add some orange!  Stay tuned...... :)

Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find!

Happy Friday!  We are having a perfect spring day here today!  Love this weather!

I have such a hard time picking a favorite flea market find, I pretty love them all!  Today's though is my ABSOLUTE  favorite one!  My husband TJ had gone to the Kane County Flea Market with me that day I found this. We did a quick walk through and I found a few little things.  Then as we were leaving I saw this.....

When I spotted this I knew I wanted it and where I was going to put it.  A really nice older man was selling it, he had some really great things!  I ended up getting this dresser for $90.00! I love everything about it.  I love the wheels on the bottom, the curve of the drawers, and the color of the wood.  TJ actually liked it too, that does not always happen!  On a side note.....TJ and my brother in law (Kim's husband) sometimes don't get what we find.  Our things have been called firewood, kindling, junk...... but in the end I know they always like what we create from it! :)

Ok back to the dresser... The coolest part is on the bottom there is a little order ticket.  It says who the dresser was made for and where they lived.  It says it was made in August of 1909!  How cool is that?

Have a great weekend!!!!

Time for some new fabric!

My dining set is pretty formal.  I bought it a few years ago and have never really loved it.  I am not sure why I picked this one out.  The chair fabric was also pretty formal.  I have since swapped it out with drop cloth fabric.  I do not love this either.  I do love using drop cloth fabric and have it on some chairs that look great!  On this set however, it just never looked right.  So now comes the FUN part!  New chair fabric!  I have also decided to paint the table!  I was acutally thinking of selling the set and finding something old to refinish.   Then I got to thinking I might as well "re do" what I already have!

I have set out to find the perfect fabric!  I love fabric!!!  Here are a few I am considering..... (I found all these on Pinterest)

I love how simple this one is.  The colors will fit right in.

I love the soft blue and white in this!

I really like this one!

Great colors!

Pretty!

This one is great, I love birds!

Beautiful!! Found this on Pinterest.

I could look at fabric all day!

I thought I liked this fabric in the store.  It has great texture and the colors are great!  I got it home and it is not going to work!  Way too big of print!!!

I am so excited to get started on this project!
I will keep you posted!!!    :)

Flea Market Fun!

If you would have told me a year ago that I would have fun at a flea market I would have thought you were crazy!  I was never a big fan of of having or going to garage sales.  I was also not too fond of "used" things.  Nothing about a flea market interested me, especially the name!  That was last year, NOW it is one of my favorite things to do!  Yesterday I spent the day with my sister Kim at the Kane County Flea Market.  This time we were had no little kids with us and  we were ready to SHOP!  The hours on Saturday are noon-5pm.  I am telling you that is just not enough time!  Our afternoon flew by!

We saw alot of cool stuff made of old barn wood.  I loved this old potting bench!  Thinking of making one!

The color of this industrial cart is so pretty!

We saw lots of wire baskets!  The best price we found them for was $20.00 each.  I think that is a little high.  But Anthropologie sells a very similar wire basket for $68.00 each so I guess it is a deal!

I love all the vintage lamps!

No idea what you would do with this?????

Love this vendor, she has some really cool things!

A vintage pay phone! haha!

                                    :)

Here is our pile of goodies!  All in all it was a great day!  We found some really cool stuff and also got some great ideas to make our own things!  We had a blast spending the day at a Flea Market, who knew they could be so much fun!!!!  :)

Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find!

This week's favorite flea market find is an awesome vintage mirror. This mirror holds a very special place in my heart.  It is the first flea market purchase I made!  My son Brady was with me that day and the moment I saw this old little beauty I knew I was buying it!  $20.00 sold!  It is chipped, scratched, and absolutely perfect!

Soon after I bought this mirror my sister was at Anthropologie in Chicago.  She found this mirror that is very similar to mine. Grooves and all!  Only mine really is old!  PLUS my mirror was about $280.00 less than that one!  :)

I love my little flea market find!

AMAZING cupcakes!

Let me just start by saying you will not see many posts from me on food.  I am not a big fan of cooking. I do enjoy baking but I am usually the only one who ends up eating what I baked!

My friend Natalie however is AMAZING! (& her daughters)   She brought me one of these little cupcakes and I just had to share them! I have not eaten it yet, I do not want to!  (well I do since I love sweets!) It is just too beautiful to eat!

OK...who else thinks Natalie should open up a cupcake shop??  :)

Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find!

Hello and welcome to......Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find!  :)

I thought it would be fun to feature a favorite find each week!

I love old silver trays!  I found this little beauty at the Kane County Flea Market.  I like the handles on it and it has cool little feet on the bottom. It is a really heavy solid tray! It was of those things I just knew I had to have when I saw it!

I love it as a coffee table tray.  This is a great way to display smaller items together without them looking lost on their own.  I love old books & candles so that is what went on my silver tray!

Thank you for checking out this week's Favorite Flea Market Find!  :)
