A pop of orange!

I have been wanting to add a pop orange to my family room for awhile now.  I was just not sure where or how yet. I love orange and have a few pops of it here and there in other rooms.

 

WELL......in comes one of the coolest days I have had shopping in a long time!  I was in WI with my daughter and her friend visiting family.  My sister Kim took us to a little boutique near her home so the girls could do some school clothes shopping.  Lets just say those girls got some amazing deals that day!!

 

Turns out the store was going out of business so the deals were awesome.  We got to chatting with the store owner and it turns out she was selling all her stuff in the store!  EVERYTHING!  From art on the walls to chairs, tables, you name it.  Her stuff was mostly from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters and was right up our alley!!

 

Some of the things were just too big but we would have loved to have them.  Kim (since she was quicker than me) ended up getting some chairs that were from Anthro for $25.00 a piece, retail was over $300 a chair!  I was going to fight her for them, but really did not know where I would use them. 

 

I was very excited for my purchase too.  I got this awesome little metal orange table!  $10.00!  When  I first saw it I actually thought about painting it, but then realized I loved the color!

 

 

 

 

 

 

The table works perfect in my little reading corner.

 

 

 

You just never know where you can find an amazing deal!!  :)

 

 

Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find........

This is actually not mine.  It is my sister Kim's.  But it is ONE of my favorites!  She found this at the Kane County Flea Market.  It was just the metal cart.  (no wood) She got it for $35.00.   She had some barn wood cut to fit and now it is AWESOME!

I also love that little orange stool!  That is from The Randolph Street Market in Chicago.  Both the cart and the stool look very Anthro-ish.   (for a fraction of the cost of course!)

Friday's Favorite Flea Market Find!

Happy Friday!!  I have such a hard time picking out my favorite things from flea markets.  I do LOVE everything!  Today I decided to go with these cute little bottles I found at the Kane County Flea Market.

There is a vendor at the Kane County Flea Market that sells bottles.  Just bottles!  Hundreds and hundreds of bottles! He knows the history of almost every bottle.  I love that!  The blue bottle on the left is a Mrs. Stewart's Bluing Bottle. This one is so cool! Mrs's Stewarts was added to laundry to make the white clothes whiter. I read the history of Mrs's Stewart and it is actually really interesting. Really!  This bottle was from the early 1900's and was hand blown.

The History of the Bluing Process

Before the automatic washer arrived, the process for bluing white fabric in the home consisted of soaking or washing the clothing in hot soapy water, usually in a large kettle over a stove or in a wash tub, then rinsing the clothing thoroughly in another kettle-often two times. Finally, a "bluing" kettle was prepared in which the clothing was simply dipped in briefly and removed, then hung to dry.
Today, bluing can be used in the wash cycle or the final rinse cycle to restore fabric to the "whitest white"!






The clear glass bottles are milk bottles.  Golden Guernsey.  The vendor said they were found in the basement of an old school in Chicago.  How neat that little kids years and years ago drank milk from these!!

I love these little bottles.  They look abit Anthropologie-ish to me!  I paid $3.00 for the milk bottles and $5.00 for the blue bottle.  Not bad for some beautiful history!  :)

Flea Market Fun!

If you would have told me a year ago that I would have fun at a flea market I would have thought you were crazy!  I was never a big fan of of having or going to garage sales.  I was also not too fond of "used" things.  Nothing about a flea market interested me, especially the name!  That was last year, NOW it is one of my favorite things to do!  Yesterday I spent the day with my sister Kim at the Kane County Flea Market.  This time we were had no little kids with us and  we were ready to SHOP!  The hours on Saturday are noon-5pm.  I am telling you that is just not enough time!  Our afternoon flew by! 

We saw alot of cool stuff made of old barn wood.  I loved this old potting bench!  Thinking of making one!

The color of this industrial cart is so pretty! 

We saw lots of wire baskets!  The best price we found them for was $20.00 each.  I think that is a little high.  But Anthropologie sells a very similar wire basket for $68.00 each so I guess it is a deal!

 

I love all the vintage lamps!

      Here is our pile of goodies!  All in all it was a great day!  We found some really cool stuff and also got some great ideas to make our own things!  We had a blast spending the day at a Flea Market, who knew they could be so much fun!!!!  :)
















                                  

A very special place~

My most cherished wall.......

When we first moved in our house I had two pictures on the stairs of fall leaves. I liked the pictures, but one day I decided I wanted to look at something that meant something to me! I decided to do a picture gallery!

I gathered up some very special family pictures and brought them to Target to have them made into black and white photos.  I had quite a few frames already so I just had to buy a few.  I hung them in no particular order.  I am not one to measure so I just kind of put them up there! Now it has become a wall filled with family and it means the world to me!

This window on the ledge is from a flea market in WI.  It was $5.00.  I decided to give it the look of mercury glass so I gave Krylons Looking Glass Spray a try.  I love it!  It is $12.00 at Hobby Lobby for a small bottle, but alittle goes a long way.  (and you can use a 40% off coupon on it as well)

It is very easy to use.  I sprayed the backside of the glass in thin layers.  I did about 5 layers.  It dried very fast in between layers.  Then I took a spray bottle filled with water and vinegar and sprayed right on the painted glass.  (after it was dry)  I took paper towel and rubbed random spots to give it the mercury glass look.  

These awesome mirrors are from Anthropologie for $698.00.  I love them!

Here is mine again and it was under $10.00!  Love that even more!  :)
